Why is Crimsafe so strong?
Crimsafe’s unique Screw-Clamp™ technology means that the mesh is securely screwed into the frame and clamped down with a vise-like grip. This makes Crimsafe much stronger that products using a plastic wedge to hold the mesh in place.
When hit by an impact like a kick, Crimsafe products spread the load around the whole frame and back into the structure of the building. This means Crimsafe can resist enormous impacts compared to competing products. Their plastic wedging system only localize the impact, making them relatively easy to kick out.
Our mesh is made out of 0.9mm diameter 304 structural grade wire strands and is woven together so tightly that each strand supports the others around it. The specifications pertaining to the products we supply are our target specifications. The actual specifications for items supplied may differ taking into account reasonable manufacturing tolerances.
What is the difference between 304 structural grade vs 316 marine grade steel?
Unlike many other systems, Crimsafe uses a superior 0.9mm diameter 304 grade structural grade stainless steel wire in our mesh.
When compared to the more common 0.8mm 316 wire, Crimsafe Tensile-Tuff® 0.9mm 304 mesh is 26.5% thicker in the cross-section, which assists its ability to absorb impact energy better at high tensile lives. This is why Crimsafe mesh is more appropriate for security applications.
It is not the actual strength of the stainless steel that is the most influential factor in creating an effective security screen. The measure of how much energy can be absorbed on the way to tensile strength is far more important. Crimsafe security screens are engineered to remain strong when deformed by impacts and do not become brittle or give way.
How strong is Crimsafe’s Tensile Tuff® Security mesh?
Our Tensile-Tuff® security mesh undergoes several hardening processes to make it stronger than ordinary steel of the same diameter and is stronger than any of our current competitors’ mesh in its class. It can withstand higher levels of impact, is more resistant to prying, pulling and knife-shear.
Will Crimsafe let me get out of my house in an emergency?
Yes. Our Crimsafe-S-Capes® emergency exit window screens allow keyless exit through windows while still maintaining heavy duty security from the outside. These screens can be hinged or sliding to accommodate a wide range of window styles.
What’s the difference between Crimsafe Regular and Crimsafe Ultimate?
Crimsafe Ultimate has added features that not only increase the strength of the security screen, but also improve the overall look. The key differences are in the greater number of screws fastening the to the frame (double), and the clip-on cover that conceals the screws. This gives the frame a smooth, sleek appearance and provides greater protection from both intruders and corrosion. Compared to most standards for impact levels, Crimsafe regular is five times stronger and Crimsafe Ultimate is seven times stronger.
Do Crimsafe doors need a mid-rail?
Crimsafe doors can be made without a mid-rail, however they are recommended as they greatly increase the strength of the screen door and its resistance to prying, and aids in visually identifying the presence of the security screen.
Can my Crimsafe sliding door be pulled off the tracks when locked?
A correctly installed Crimsafe Sliding Door should not be able to be removed from the tracks when closed and locked.
How well can you see through Crimsafe mesh?
The mesh gap is just under 1/16″, which means that Crimsafe should not impede your view substantially in normal lighting conditions.
Is it pet proof?
Yes, absolutely. Dogs, cats and birds are unable to penetrate the mesh with their claws and beaks.
Is Crimsafe fly, mosquito, sand fly or midge proof?
The holes in Crimsafe’s Tensile-Tuff® security mesh are just slightly larger than regular fly screens. Mosquitoes and larger insects are unable to pass through, and Crimsafe cuts the number of smaller insects that enter your home by about 80%.
Is the mesh available in any other color besides black?
Generally not, as black absorbs light and is non-reflective. When you look through the mesh, all you see is light that some come straight through, making it much easier to see outside. If the mes was any other color, it would create glare and reduce visibility.
Does Crimsafe mesh cut down the heat and light of the sun?
Depending on the angle of the sun, Crimsafe acts as a very effective blind without affecting your view. Independent studies show that Crimsafe screens can cut down on solar heat gain by up to 53%, adding to the energy efficiency of your door or window.
Will Crimsafe rust?
Crimsafe® mesh is made from 304 Grade Stainless Steel, itself having a 65 year lifespan. High grade pre-treatment and high durability powder coat technologies are applied to further protect and enhance the finished product. Airborne impurities may build up on the surface of the mesh or frame and may oxidize and cause a change in color, but as long as the powder coating remains intact, Crimsafe will not rust.
Can Crimsafe be used for fire protection?
Crimsafe can reduce the intensity of radiant heat by up to 59%, and is deemed an ‘alternative solution’ for fire attenuation. Crimsafe screens have a mesh aperture of less than 1/16″, and can prevent the spread of embers. A Fire Safety Report by a Fire Protection Engineer or Certifier is required.
Is Crimsafe strong enough for commercial and heavy-duty applications?
Yes. Our commercial grade product is designed specifically for applications needing additional security, such as banks for prisons. This product line uses five times as many screws to fasten the mesh into the frame as our regular product, and 60% thicker frames to dramatically increase the strength of the system.
Crimsafe commercial grade is an impressive twelve times stronger than the impact levels required by most standards.
How long is the Crimsafe warranty?
Crimsafe security systems provide a 10 year warranty. Terms and conditions apply. Read more about our Warranty here.
Do I need to clean Crimsafe?
Yes. Crimsafe Tensile-Tuff® mesh acts similarly to an air conditioner filter or a pool filter, in that it traps dirt and impurities and requires cleaning on a regular basis.
You should clean your Crimsafe screens in accordance with our Care Guide.
