Why is Crimsafe so strong?
Crimsafe’s unique Screw-Clamp™ technology means that the mesh is screwed into the frame and clamped down with a vice like grip using the Crimsafe Screw-Clamp.
This makes Crimsafe much stronger than other products that use a plastic wedge to hold the mesh in place.
When hit by an impact like a kick, Crimsafe spreads the load around the whole frame and back into structure of the building, meaning Crimsafe can resist enormous impacts compared to plastic wedging systems which only localise the impact, making them relatively easy to kick out compared to Crimsafe.
The mesh is also made out of 0.9mm diameter 304 structural grade wire strands, and woven together in such a tight way that each strand supports the others around it.
The specifications pertaining to the mesh and other products that we supply are our target specifications. The actual specifications for items supplied may differ taking into account reasonable manufacturing tolerances.
What is the difference between 304 structural grade vs 316 marine grade steel?
Unlike many other systems, Crimsafe uses a superior 0.9mm diameter 304 grade structural grade stainless steel wire in our mesh.
When compared to 0.8mm 316 wire, Crimsafe Tensile-Tuff® 0.9mm 304 mesh is 26.5% thicker in cross-section, which assists its ability to absorb impact energy better at high tensile levels and makes it more appropriate for security applications.
The actual strength of the stainless steel, while very important, is not the most influential factor in creating an effective security screen. The measure of how much energy can be absorbed on the way to tensile strength is far more important. Crimsafe security screens are engineered to remain strong when deformed by the impact of an attack and do not become brittle and give way.
How strong is Crimsafe’s Tensile Tuff® Security mesh?
Our Tensile-Tuff® security mesh undergoes several hardening processes to make it stronger than ordinary steel of the same diameter. Our mesh is stronger than any of our current competitors’ mesh in its class. All Crimsafe products have significantly outperformed the impact levels required by Australian Standards, and can resist higher levels of impact than competitor products. Crimsafe also passes Australian Standards for jemmy testing, pull-testing and knife-shear testing. View Crimsafe Testing Results.
Will Crimsafe let me get out of my house in an emergency?
Yes. Crimsafe produces emergency exit window screens called Crimsafe-S-Capes®. They allow keyless exit through windows while still maintaining heavy duty security from the outside. The Crimsafe-S-Cape® can be hinged or sliding to accommodate a wide range of window styles. Read more about Crimsafe Emergency Exits.
What’s the difference between Crimsafe Regular and Crimsafe Ultimate?
Crimsafe Ultimate has added features that increase the strength of the security screen, and also make it look better. The key differences are in the greater number of screws fastening the mesh to the frame (twice as many), and the clip-on cover that conceals the screws. This not only gives the frame a smooth, sleek appearance, it provides greater protection from intruders and also corrosion. Crimsafe Regular is five times stronger than the impact levels required by most standards, and Crimsafe Ultimate is seven times stronger. Read more about Crimsafe Ultimate.
Do Crimsafe doors need a mid-rail?
Crimsafe doors can be made without a mid-rail, however they are recommended as a mid-rail greatly increases the strength of the screen door and its resistance to jemmying, and aids in visually identifying the presence of the security screen.
Can my Crimsafe sliding door be pulled off the tracks when locked?
A correctly installed Crimsafe Sliding Door should not be able to be removed from the tracks when closed and locked.
How well can you see through Crimsafe mesh?
The aperture size is just under 1/16 of an inch, which means that Crimsafe does not impede your view in any substantial way in normal lighting conditions.
Is it pet proof?
Yes, absolutely. Dogs, cats and birds are unable to penetrate the mesh with their claws and beaks.
Is Crimsafe fly, mosquito, sand fly or midge proof?
The holes in Crimsafe’s Tensile-Tuff® security mesh are just slightly larger than regular flyscreen. Flies and mosquitoes are unable to pass through, and Crimsafe cuts the number of sand flies and midges that enter your home by about 80%.
Is the mesh available in any other color besides black?
Generally not. Black absorbs light and is non-reflective, so when you look through the mesh all you see is light that has come straight through the holes in it, making it much easier to see outside. If the mesh was any other color, it would create glare and reduce visibility.
Does Crimsafe mesh cut down the heat and light of the sun?
Depending on the angle of the sun, Crimsafe acts as a very effective blind whilst still allowing you an excellent view. Independent studies show that your Crimsafe screen can cut down on solar heat gain by up to 53%, adding to the energy efficiency of your door or window.
Will Crimsafe rust?
Crimsafe® mesh is made from 304 Grade Stainless Steel which on its own has a lifespan of approximately 65 years. High grade pre-treatment and high durability powder coat technologies are applied to further protect and enhance the finished Crimsafe product. Airborne impurities that build up on the surface of the mesh and frame that may oxidise and cause a change in colour but, provided the powder coating remains intact, Crimsafe mesh will not rust.
Can Crimsafe be used for fire protection?
With an aperture size of less than 1/16 of an inch, Crimsafe screens can prevent the spread of embers.
Crimsafe can reduce the intensity of radiant heat by up to 59% (as tested by Exova Warringtonfire) and is deemed an ‘alternative solution’ for fire attenuation. A Fire Safety Report by a Fire Protection Engineer or Certifier is required.
Is Crimsafe strong enough for commercial and heavy-duty applications?
Yes. Crimsafe produces a commercial grade product specifically for applications needing additional security, such as banks or prisons. Our commercial grade product uses five times as many screws to fasten the mesh into the frame as our regular product, and 60% thicker frames to dramatically increase the strength of the system.
Crimsafe commercial grade is an impressive twelve times stronger than the impact levels required by most standards.
How long is the Crimsafe warranty?
Crimsafe security systems provide a 10 year warranty. Terms and conditions apply. Read more about our Warranty here.
Do I need to clean Crimsafe?
Yes. Crimsafe Tensile-Tuff® mesh acts similarly to an air conditioner filter or a pool filter, in that it traps dirt and impurities and requires cleaning on a regular basis.
You should clean your Crimsafe screens in accordance with our Care Guide.
